Br. rice

100 g rice per person
175 mL water

saute minced garlic briefly
add dry rice, saute 2 min

add water, cover partially
reduce heat, simmer for around 11 min
  

Jp. rice

100 g rice per person
same VOLUME of water per portion

wash with plenty of water, 3 or 4 times

soak for 30 min

add correct amount of water and cover completely

med-high heat for 4 mins
then lower heat, cook for another 12 min
turn off heat, rest another 10 min
